I-24 Weekend Ramp Closures in Rutherford County: Sam Ridley, Almaville and Waldron

TDOT has revised its I-24 ramp repair schedule in Rutherford County after weather delays, with closures now set for the weekends of Oct. 16, 23 and 30. Both eastbound Sam Ridley Parkway off-ramps close fully the weekend of Oct. 16. Here is the updated schedule, plus other Murfreesboro road work.

Drivers on Interstate 24 in northern Rutherford County should plan for weekend ramp and lane closures through the end of October. The Tennessee Department of Transportation says weather delayed its previously published schedule of four consecutive weekends of intermittent lane and ramp closures for concrete repair on I-24, and it has released a new schedule covering the weekends of Oct. 16, Oct. 23 and Oct. 30. The work affects Exit 64 (Waldron Road), Exit 66 (Sam Ridley Parkway) and Exit 70 (Almaville Road).

When the Ramps Close

Each weekend, TDOT says ramp closures begin with an overnight closure from 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. The ramps close again from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Sunday. Advance signage will be in place to alert drivers to closures and traffic-pattern changes.

Weekend of Oct. 16

• Exit 66A (W. Sam Ridley Parkway) eastbound off-ramp: full closure
• Exit 66B (E. Sam Ridley Parkway) eastbound off-ramp: full closure
• Exit 70 (Almaville Road) eastbound off-ramp: lane shift
• Exit 66 (Sam Ridley Parkway) westbound off-ramp: lane shift
• Exit 64 (Waldron Road) westbound off-ramp: partial closure

With both eastbound Sam Ridley exits closed that weekend, drivers headed to Smyrna from Nashville will need another exit. Exit 70 at Almaville Road stays open eastbound with a lane shift.

Weekend of Oct. 23

The weekend of Oct. 9 is not on TDOT's revised schedule. All work is weather-dependent.

Why Is TDOT Closing I-24 Ramps?

TDOT says the closures are needed to finish its I-24 resurfacing project from the Davidson County line (near mile marker 63) to Baker Road (near mile marker 71), which is part of TDOT's 3-Year Pavement Plan. TDOT reminds drivers to allow extra time, slow down and move over in work zones. Under Tennessee's Move Over Law, violators face up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.

The Oct. 16 weekend, when both eastbound Sam Ridley Parkway exits close, falls in the middle of pumpkin-patch and Halloween season. TDOT's North Thompson Lane (State Route 268) project will widen about 4.3 miles between Northwest Broad Street and Memorial Boulevard to four travel lanes with a center turn lane, add sidewalks on both sides and a shared-use path, and replace the bridge over the West Fork Stones River.
